4 Signs Of Overtraining: Has Your Body Had Enough?

There is no denying that working out is great for you, but if you are not careful, there is a chance that you’ll carry it too far. And sometimes this could jeopardize your health. Yes, you’re seeing right. Too much of anything is bad. In truth, your body occasionally sends signals in an attempt to alert you to any risks you may be running during your daily activities, but are you aware of them? Perhaps, if you make some time to observe your body language, you will notice the desperate calls for rest. However, at times they are so sneaky that it is hard to figure out what is going on. You Get Sick Frequently

If you are doing your best to have a healthy lifestyle, it doesn’t make sense to get down with the sickness more easily than usual. Your immune system should be fine if your diet is based on protein and vitamins, you do physical activity occasionally, and avoid smoking and drinking. But if it fails to fight off viruses and colds, it might be one of the signs of overtraining. When you exercise, you spend vast amounts of energy. It is essential to ensure adequate rest for your body between workouts to give it enough time to recover. Or else you will expose your immune system to risk. As a result, you will become more susceptible to cold and flu.

Your Muscles Are Sore All The Time

If you continue to feel intense muscle soreness long after your last training session, this might be another sign that you have been giving your body a hard time lately. Of course, there will be muscle soreness following a big workout. You know, one day you do a series of push-ups and the next day you find yourself struggling to lift your arms. It is okay if you experience those displeasing woes 24 hours to 48 hours following the exercise, especially if you are a newbie. However, if you still feel exhausted and sluggish after 72 hours, you should definitely think rest.

You Have Trouble Getting to Sleep

Another sleepless night? If you have been tossing and turning in bed lately, your heart racing and your mind unable to switch off, this is one of the signs of overtraining. It means you aren’t letting your body recharge fully. It is like a huge battery that charges and discharges after a certain period of time. You know what happens when the battery of your phone gets exhausted. It turns off and is not responsive unless you plug it in. It’s the same with your body. When you hit the pillow, it’s as if your body is plugged in and charging. If you don’t provide enough time for this, though, it won’t charge fully and you will end up having less energy.

You Are Still Tired After A Full Night’s Sleep

On the flip side, do you get enough sleep but still feel run-down in the morning? Again, it could be overtraining. One thing is for sure: you need to slow down. So, if training is making you exhausted instead of energized, it is a rest day you should be scheduling. Mind you that staying out of the gym for a while doesn’t mean doing no physical activity at all. As a matter of fact, you should stay active. For example, you can try stretching, yoga and those regular walks in the open. Anything that isn’t intense training will make do.

Trading your couch-potato evenings for an intense training session is always a great idea but you shouldn’t go to extremes. You need not forget to add proper rest in your training plan to ensure that your muscles recover fully after each workout. Exercise smart, stay healthy.
